My doctor gives me the prescriptions,  so how can I be addicted?

If you are using the prescribed medication for a legitimate condition, and while under the care of a doctor, then you may be physically dependent on the drug, but not addicted.

According to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 15.2 million Americans over the age of 12, have taken a prescription pain reliever, tranquilizer, stimulant or sedative for non-medical purposes.  This non-medical use is where the connection to substance abuse and addiction begins to appear.
