Can’t I just cut back a little on my drug and alcohol use?
Although this may seem like a logical way to stop or control escalating drug and alcohol use, the fact is that once a person’s brain has become addicted, it is usually impossible to stop using without treatment and rehabilitation.
Scientific research has shown that over time there is an inability for the addict to exercise self-control over when, where, and how much they use drugs and alcohol. Often the addiction begins so gradually that a person may not realize there is a real problem until they are physically unable to control the cravings, and their health and relationships have been severely affected.
